THis guy rules. They will give anyone a column at townhall.com. He's the average meathead bully you've known all your life, only he has a rudimentary grasp of how to spell.

Some choice quotes.
What is up with the violent knee jerk regarding “The Passion”? Man, has this film struck a nerve, or what?

Dude, totally. What is up man? its like, whatever dude.

First off, “The Passion” is not anti-Semitic, its pro-history. Do the Jews want to erase from the historical record the carnage of the holocaust and its perpetrators because it makes Germans uncomfortable?

So now Jesus Christ rising from the grave and being our messiah is as historically "accurate" as the holocaust. THis guy rues.

Secondly, we come to the “too violent” charge. This is too funny. First of all the film is about a crucifixion, it’s not about a Wal-Mart Assistant Manager’s Day sale. It’s supposed to be bloody, Captain Not-so-Obvious.

Oooh. THank you admiral straight shooter!

The rest of the column is the usual anyone who dares not like this movie hates god stuff. But its done in such a refreshingly idiotic and retarded way, its worth reading.

Friday, February 27, 2004

The Hollywood elite's leftist agenda is why Charles Bronson never got an academy award for Death Wish.

Thats not some snarky joke by me. It's a serious comment from one of the nutbags at Townhall.

Here's
my snarky joke:
Racism is why F. Murray Abraham got an Oscar instead of Michael Chambers for his performace as "Ozone" in the 1987 film Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo"

Great news. What Hastert did (most likely at the urging of the white house) was disgusting.

Why do conservatives just lie?

And if Rush Limbaugh had been canned over the kind of racial comments Stern made, and allowed on the air, nobody would be crying "censorship."

Stern made no racial comments. If he bothered to take a second and find out for himself, he would learn it was some random caller who blurted it out. Stern thane condemned what the man said and moved on. You see, ublk ethe "professor" I actually heard what happened before rushing to my computer to try and prove how oh so smart I am.

I want to take a class he teaches just to annoy the shit out of this guy. Learning law at the University of Tennessee must be a freaking cakewalk if this retard is teaching it.

OK. Maybe I'm shallow. But damn. I am a huge Lennon fan. THis is just cool.

Merchandising rules!

The Happy meal will be unveiled next week. The meal is Kosher and comes with a crucified Jesus bobblehead doll.

Riddle me this.

What trailer do you think they will play before Mel Gibsons Jesus movie?

Excuse me for a second...

"Ahem"

OK...

Ready...

We told ya so

We told ya so

How any gay man or woman could have ever deluded themselves into thinking Bush wasn't an anti gay bigot for over 3 years is beyond me.

Of COURSE he's going to want to write anti-gay bigotry into the constitution. That's what anti-gay bigots do.

Wake up people.

Henry Hyde, who ran the impeachment hearings, and praised Ken Starr for investigating a blow job for 40 million addn imeached a president over it, today:

"God forbid that this U.S. Attorney should investigate any of us."

MAn they are so desperate.

This woman just doesn’t get it:

"I'd give it 10 stars. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life," said Maritza Castro, 32, who had tears streaming down her face as she left a preview screening for church groups at the Magic Johnson Theater in Harlem.
"I knew from the Bible that he did take a beating. I didn't know how intense," she said.

Guess what Maritza? You STILL don't know how intense the beating was. See, what you just saw was actor and NASCAR fan Jim Caviezel pretending to get beat up in front of a camera on some set in Italy, not the actual Jesus.

Hey I always thought some of Jesus’s followers at the time were kind of wacky and easily impressionable, But Monty Pythons Life Of Brian finally proved it.

Will Mel Gibson please shut the f*ck up now? You made a movie about Christ and its controversial. Fantastic. I don’t remember Martin Scorsese whining about it like a bitch.

And can someone please tell MSNBC, the Moonie Times and all the other people out there that Mel Gibson is not a Catholic. He is part of a fringe catholic sect that is not recognized by the Holy see (meaning, he is not a true catholic).

Also, when people report the fact that your dad is an anti semetic lunatic, its not a huge liberal conspiracy spearheaded by the evil New York Times. It’s because your dad is an anti semetic lunatic.

I look forward to seeing the movie myserlf, and think Gibson has gotten a raw deal from criticism from people who didn’t see the movie (and possibly some who did), as Scorsese did in 88. But lately hes just such a whining little martyr I just wanna smack em.

And Bill O’reiilys self described “no spin review”, is also a “no facts” review.

Only twice does Gibson stray from Scripture.
The initial departure is to introduce Satan into the narrative; that does not happen in the Bible. Second, Gibson beefs up the role of Simon of Cyrene, the Jew who was forced by the Romans to carry Jesus' cross when he could no longer do it. Simon emerges as a heroic figure.

No, Gibson strays from scripture numerous times, from lines of dialogue to entire scenes that were “inspired” by some nun who said she had “visions” in 1833. All well and good, Its his movie. But O’reilly uses this “its completely accurate” excuse to attack critics of the film. Something that perhaps may be considered, by some, as, oh I don’t know, spin?

Bush’s education Secretary call’s the NEA, the nations largest teachers union, “a terrorist organization."

Will RNC chairman Ed Gillespie who calls virtually any criticism of Bush “hate-speech”, ask for his resignation? Or will he keep his mouth shut because he is a shameless republican whore?

God, Bill O'Reilly is such a jackass. There is noting more important than a narcissitic, thin skinned pundit who is compeltly full of shit. Whenver you point out teh fact taht they are full of shit, he has a complete hissy fit.

SCoobie Davis Nails him so good. I can't beleive I missed this one when it was revealed back in October. First we get the pompous jackasses comment' from NPR (before he stormed out of teh interview in his 1,234th hissy fit)
"We are founded on a Judeo-Christian philosophy. There’s no question about that. And I have a degree in history, I have all of Jefferson's and Madison's letters and I know what I am talking about."

Then this oquote from his book, where he cites a completely fictituos quote by Madison (he even capitalizes the fake part!!):
Let’s take a look at those Ten Commandments. Boy, the federal courts don’t want you to see those on American Government property, no way. But wait, there’s a signpost up ahead. It was written by James Madison, the guiding force behind the language of the Constitution. Said Madison: "We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to THE TEN COMMANDMENTS" (pp. 116-117; caps and emphasis in original).

The amazing thing is, even ignoring Bill "I have a degree in history, I have all of Jefferson's and Madison's letters and I know what I am talking about" O'reilly's peddling a fake quote, anyone whoe ven had cursory knowledgfe of the founder swould now Madison was a fervent beleiver in teh seperation of church and state.

I can?t believe people pay this guy to write this shit.

Andrew Sullivan is again engaging in the tired old "blame Clinton" excuse regarding the war on terra.

This is what happens when an administration regards the war on terror as a mere matter of law enforcement:

Clinton had demonstrated his willingness to kill bin Laden, without any pretense of seeking his arrest, when he ordered the cruise missile strikes on an eastern Afghan camp in August 1998, after the CIA obtained intelligence that bin Laden might be there for a meeting of al Qaeda leaders.
Yet the secret legal authorizations Clinton signed after this failed missile strike required the CIA to make a good faith effort to capture bin Laden for trial, not kill him outright.

The Clinton administration's feckless attempts to get Osama are, to my mind, a huge neon warning about what might happen if John Kerry becomes president.

So now the war on terror was being fought in 1998? Gosh, why did Bush ignore it for 8 months before 9/11? Man, if were gonna use Andy logic, Bush is a complete disaster when it comes to fighting terra. Not to mention the entire Republican Party who had virtually no desire to even attempt to go after bin Laden in 1998. They were more interested in impeaching our "wartime" president over an affair, and not let him fight terra. In fact I distinctly remember hearing the Senate Majority leader NOT supporting an attack on Bin Laden, while our soldiers were still in harm?s way.

I wonder sometimes. When he writes this, is he unaware that his argument is completely full of shit, or is he aware of it and is just doing it because he?s a Clinton hater?

Either answer makes him look like what he is. An idiot.

Perhaps Andy can let us know when the official war on terra began. That way I can start writing idiotic posts blaming all sorts of people for not reacting to something that is going to happen 3 f*cking years in the future.

More proof Bush is a mindless idiot.

He named his family dog "spot".

Friday, February 20, 2004

Josh MArshall points to Bush's newly unvieled job growth package in the WAPO:

"The artificial windows revealed an inviting blue sky. Bush portrayed a similarly sunny outlook with remarks that used "optimistic" or "optimism" seven times in 49 minutes. He repeatedly stressed the power of positive thinking as an engine of job creation."

CLose your eyes and just wish really really hard!

Anatomy of a smear.

Wes Pruden, who runs the Moonie Times, is a world renouwned smear artist. In fact journalists have come to call the distortion and fabrication of news to serve a partisan purpose the act of being “prudenized”.

So obviously it was only a matter of time before he went to work on John Kerry. At issue is the accusation that has been peddled regarding Kerry “smearing” vet’s by accusing them of atrocities. Bucktoothed hag Kate O’bierene did it on Capital Gang. Now Wesley joins the fun.

And he is so blatantly and deliberately dishonest, it just rises to another level:

"They ... raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power," he told a Senate committee in 1971 when he was just home from the war, and "cut off limbs, [blew] up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam."

Miserable lies, and he never produced evidence or repudiated the lies. Americans tolerate a lot of hyperbole in election season, but stuff like this will unhorse even a Botox man.

Leaving aside the “botox” crack, which was never more than an internet rumor, and would technically if one was to be accurate, rise to the level of a “miserable lie”, look at Kerry’s quote. Gosh, you would think he had Kerry dead to rights. There he is saying unequivocally that they (meaning soldiers) raped and killed. Gosh….

Now let’s look at Kerry’s testimony without the conveniently added ellipses:

They told stories that at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

So Kery was lying by saying her heard testimony from veterans describing their own actions? Can anyone prove that he did not in fact here this testimony?

Does the truth mean anything to these people?

Will I ever learn how to type correctly?

Damn. Looks Like Ron was in the Peggy Noonan chat on washingtonpost.com. Peggy got the smackdown.

St. Louis, Mo.: Will enchanted dolphins arrive in time to save President Bush's drowning Presidency like they saved Elian?

Peggy Noonan: Maybe. And maybe he won't need saving. And maybe the Democrats will. And maybe by the election you'll need saving, and perhaps some of Bush's decisions made in connection to the war on terror will save you. It's all the maybes that keep us getting up in the morning with a sense of excitement and anticipation, don't you think?

Peggy “mystical dolphins” Noonan:
Will people buy George W. Bush as a shirker and an operator? Those who hate him will. But the rest -- that would be the majority -- have watched him for three years in dramatic circumstances, and they know who he is.

They certainly do…..
Most Americans believe President Bush either lied or deliberately exaggerated evidence that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction in order to justify war, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

I ask again. It can't continue to be this easy can it?

Ed gillespie gets smacked down by Russert.
MR. RUSSERT: When the Bush campaign released the attack on the Web site that I showed Charles Rangel, the Kerry Web site responded last night. Let's watch.

(Videotape): Unidentified Narrator: Who's the politician that has taken more special interest money than anyone in history? The same one who's attacking John Kerry's record because he can't defend his own. (End videotape)

MR. RUSSERT: And this is on the whole issue of special interest money.

MR. GILLESPIE: Right.

MR. RUSSERT: The Washington Post examined the records of both men. This was their conclusion: "He Ought to Know. It's hard to recall a more brazen display of political chutzpah than the Bush campaign's assault on Sen. John F. Kerry as a captive of special interests. ..."Mr. Bush's acceptance of special-interest money and his subsequent rewards to the industries doing the giving dwarf anything in Mr. Kerry's record. ... "Of Mr. Bush's Pioneers--those who raised at least $100,000 in the 2000 campaign--21 snagged ambassadorships ... Checks from `HMOs, telecom, drug companies?' Mr. Bush has swamped Mr. Kerry in all three sectors during this campaign raking in 10 times as much from donors connected to the pharmaceutical industry and telecommunications ..." A new book out called "The Buying of the President, 2004" by the Center for Public Integrity has this page: George W. Bush Top Career Patrons. And there number one is the Enron Corporation. Attacking John Kerry on special interests, according to The Washington Post, is chutzpah by the Bush campaign.

MR. GILLESPIE: Well, let me tell you what chutzpah is, Tim, and the issue here is not special interests. Look, I think that John Kerry, you know, the contributors and supporters that he has who are, you know, the trial lawyers and the public employee unions, those are special interests by my lights. He thinks that the Chamber of Commerce and Second Amendment advocates who support the president are special interests. One candidate's supporters are another's special interests. The issue here is this is a guy who is the number-one recipient of lobbyist money in the United States Senate over the past 15 years saying he's going to drive the money changers out of the temple when he's been changing money in the temple for 19 years now.

MR. RUSSERT: Charles Rangel said the president raised more money from lobbyists in one night than John Kerry raised his entire career.

MR. GILLESPIE: I don't believe that's accurate, but I don't know. I don't...

MR. RUSSERT: No, but he also said that John Kerry has agreed to release any meeting he's had with lobbyists. Will President Bush release any meeting he's ever had with a lobbyist?

MR. GILLESPIE: I don't speak for the president, as you well know, but I do know this:

Blah blah "change the subject", blah blah "hate speech"......

Its amazing how inept they are
Ad:
Who's the politician that has taken more special interest money than anyone in history? The same one who's attacking John Kerry's record because he can't defend his own.

Gilelspie:
the issue here is not special interests.

It can't continue to be this easy, can it?

Bush on Meet the Press:
"There is no such thing necessarily in a dictatorial regime of iron-clad absolutely solid evidence. The evidence I had was the best possible evidence that he had a weapon."

"Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. There is no doubt he is amassing them to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us."
Dick Cheney, August 26th, 2002

There can be no doubt that Saddam Hussein has biological weapons and the capability to rapidly produce more, many more.
Colin Powell, February 7th, 2003

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Colin Powell today:

Powell was recalling for the panel his review of the prewar intelligence. "I went and lived at the CIA for about four days to make sure that nothing was," he began, when he paused and glared at a staffer seated behind the members of Congress.

"Are you shaking your head for something, young man, back there?" Powell asked. "Are you part of these proceedings?"

Powell's unusual remarks threatened to derail the hearing. Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), a 12-year veteran of the House, objected, "Mr. Chairman, I've never heard a witness reprimand a staff person in the middle of a question."

Powell shot back, "I seldom come to a meeting where I am talking to a congressman and I have people aligned behind you giving editorial comment by head shakes."

"Well, I think people have opinions," Brown responded.
[snip]
Powell, however, became testy when Brown said, in a reference to questions about whether Bush completed his National Guard service: "You are one of the very few people in this administration that understands war. We have a president who may have been AWOL" from duty.

"First of all, Mr. Brown, I won't dignify your comments about the president because you don't know what you are talking about," Powell snapped.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean, Mr. Secretary," Brown replied.

"You made reference to the president," Powell said.

"I say he may have been AWOL," Brown repeated.

"Mr. Brown, let's not go there," Powell retorted. "Let's not go there in this hearing. If you want to have a political fight on this matter, that is very controversial, and I think is being dealt with by the White House, fine. But let's not go there."

Thanks to Ron.

He's got my vote.

Kate O'Bierne is a bucktoothed smear artist. Here is the proof.

From the transcript from last weeks capital gang:
If you look at his Senate testimony in 1971, he said, not on an isolated basis, but widespread war crimes, daily basis, officers up and down the chain of command aware of it. Now, either he doesn't know about the reality of combat because that was, frankly, not true, even though he fought there. Secondly, he was willing to slander the majority of Vietnam vets, who, of course, served honorably and decently, as cheap political theater for his own career. I think that second Vietnam war record is a real problem.

SHIELDS: So who's right, Bob Novak or Kate O'Beirne?

HUNT: Chuck Hagel, Republican, Vietnam veteran from Nebraska, said that is -- that is a dog that won't hunt. That is a flimsy thing to say. This man earned the right to say what he wanted to say over there. And any -- I would love some Republican try to say that John Kerry didn't understand combat. Is George Bush going to say that? Is Dick Cheney going to say that? Who's going to make that argument? That's a wonderful issue.

I think there are issues Republicans have against John Kerry -- you know, liberal voting record, you know, maybe tax-and-spend, maybe not a very effective senator. But boy, if they try to play the national security card against a guy like that, who brings -- not only was he a war hero, but a lot of the guys who served with him travel with him. And that's going to be a tough one, Kate.

O'BEIRNE: The public does not agree with him! They do not believe the majority of people who served in Vietnam committed war crimes!

HUNT: John Kerry doesn't, either.

O'BEIRNE: That's just what he said!

HUNT: No. No, he did not.

O'BEIRNE: He did!

HUNT: That's a distortion. That is a...

Al Hunt was being too nice. Here's The capital gang if Ed Hill was a co-host.

Kate, smearing a decorated war hero is the most disgusting act a human being can ever do. I am ashamed for you and your family. Kerry did NOT slander anyone, especially the brave brothers he fought with. Kerry's statement in 1971 is well known. He was quoting the testimony of actual veterans who admitted to atrocities they commited. They were not, as you say, accusations that were "not true".

I am disgusted to be sitting next to you right now. You're an ugly pig.

Holy shit!

Federal law-enforcement officials said that they have developed hard evidence of possible criminal misconduct by two employees of Vice President Dick Cheney's office related to the unlawful exposure of a CIA officer's identity last year. The investigation, which is continuing, could lead to indictments, a Justice Department official said.

According to these sources, John Hannah and Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, were the two Cheney employees. "We believe that Hannah was the major player in this," one federal law-enforcement officer said. Calls to the vice president's office were not returned, nor did Hannah and Libby return calls.

So 2 high up adminitration officials, including teh Vice President's Chief of Staff, are traitors to their country?

Seriously.

I've looked into the statute in question. Its very narrowly drawn. The person who leaks the information HAS to have known that the person was a covert operative when they revealed the information. In other words, they knew they were betraing their country and endangering the lives of our operatives overseas.

The Vice President chief of staff????

IS it bad that the partisan in me is actually giddy at the thought of this?

It is, isn't it?

Up to the minute cost of the war in Iraq.

Sometimes you should thank god for stupidity.

What is this national lets become political whores with no principles week?

U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert pledged for the first time yesterday that he would push a tobacco buyout plan to the House floor -- but only if Republican Alice Forgy Kerr is elected to Congress.

(from Atrios)

It constantly amazes me the utter lack of any sense of decency this administration has. And I am a Clinton fan. From Today’s Washington Post the story was that Bush was finally relenting in to pressure on extending the deadline on the 9/11 probe. The commission said they needed more time to get the facts. It was a move the families supported. But this paragraph is what shocked me:

A senior Republican official said the White House acceded to the postponement after learning from commission sources that the report is likely to "have some criticism of the White House, but will not conclude that there was a failure by Bush himself.

I mean, I can’t stand this administration and its policies, but this one really amazed me. How can anyone think Bush has any decency?

Just let the image wash over you…..

Star Jones mentioned to her fans at “The View” that she and some friends went to a stripping party, and now a spy has filled The Scoop in on some details.
“They took lessons on pole dancing and they learned how to do a booty shake,” according to a source, who says that the party and lessons were at a place called the Penth0use Executive Club in Manhattan. The insider says that Jones was joined by fifteen friends, including Janice Combs, P. Diddy’s mother, who also took the lessons. “Star was really quite good. She threw herself into it, but she said she felt she needed to work on her ankle action to perfect her swiveling movement. She said the whole experience was like a slumber party and was an amazing bonding experience.”

When Novak is knocking the Republican president, you know you're in trouble

SO calling Bush a deserter is an outragous slander, but Newsweek's calling Clinton a draft dodger, is fair game?

Wartime heroics are helpful in politics but rarely decisive. World War II vets George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole both lost to draft dodger Bill Clinton.

Sure, technically Bush isn't a deserter because he was never charged and was given an honorable discharge (which Alterman goes to pains to point out in the same column later on). But calling Clinton a Draft dodger is equally false.

Freaking liberal media. And remember, they hate Kerry. They will definitly pull a Gore this year, letting Bush's lies slide because he jokes with them on the press plane and gives em wacky nicknames, while piling up on Kerry.

Priorities.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 - The Senate shut down its three office buildings on Tuesday, disrupting the work of lawmakers and thousands of their aides, after a powder identified as the deadly poison ricin was found in the office of the Senate majority leader, Bill Frist.

"The president's $37 million budget request for the U.S. Postal Service, submitted to Congress yesterday, does not include $779 million for biodetection technology the agency had sought to safeguard against anthrax-like attacks. The discretionary funding request is $23 million, or 38 percent, less than last year. Mitch King, manager of government affairs for the Postal Service, said officials would now take the biodetection request directly to Congress."

Tuesday, February 03, 2004

For those people out there worried that Bush does not want to find out why he and his administration lied us into a war, fear not. He has just ordered a commission to examine the intelligence used and how it was so wrong. OF course Bush will hand pick the members of the “independent” commission himself, and he will make sure that any findings that they find will be released well after the election.

So stop worrying.

Oh yeah, And Powell now says if he knew Iraq had no WMD before the war he probably would not have advocated going to war and having over 500 of our troops killed.

Kerry save us…..

Maxspeak has a particularly brutal, and honest, takedown of the fiction that is Bush's Budget.

This is not a serious or honest budget. In fact, it is not a budget at all. It's a political infomercial dedicated to George Bush's reelection.

It only gets better...

Liberal media at it again.

The Business week article I cited earlier today that deconstructed the lies and smoke and mirrors used in Bush's budget was entitled "Lies, Damned Lies, and Bush's Budget". It still shows up that way in a google search, and the MSNBC cpy still has the old title (for now). However this afternoon, the title has now been changed without explanation to "Team Bush's Wishful Budget Thinking"

Even though they are clearly lying about their numbers, the media still can't use the "L" word.
Unbeleivable...

Bush's budget is out and it's the usual bunch of flat out lies and fabrications, only moreso because its an election year. Business week takes it down here.. Krugman rips it apart here.

Kerry leads Bush. Of course this is before Bush spends 200 million smearing Kerry, but its still a good sign.

So the conservative NY Post, which is owned by FOX News honcho Rupert Murdoch, doesn’t like Al Franken.
Skip covered this in his blog so I’ll just recap.
If you read actual unbiased news reports, you’ll see that an out of control Larouche protestor was shoving people (including security gaurds) and screaming. AND When I say screaming, I don’t mean “Down with Dean”, I mean screaming unintelligibly like a maniac. Josh Marshall also witnessed the same event.

Franken came in to help out by taking out the guys legs to help him drop to the ground. All well and good. Well once the post was done with the event they twisted it into Franken “body slamming” a protestor who was exercising his free speech. They are right wing hacks, so its expected.

But today, Franken sent in a letter to the post basically telling the post to, well, try not to be right wing hacks and report the truth. The post responds by calling Al Franken a liar. Why is Al Franken is a liar? Because Al said he never “body slammed” anyone, he took out the guys legs. The post proof that he was a liar is…. Their own interview with him right after the incident where Franken says, He took out the guys legs....

It's one thing for them to be biased hacks who lie, but do they have to be so stupid too?

One thing that puzzles me about the FCC chairman’s statement regarding Janet’s nasty middle aged booby (which we can all agree no one wanted to see).

Is he implying that up until then, watching P. Diddy lip synching another one of his shitty songs where he just takes an old seventies song and add’s him saying “yeah yeah” over the lyrics, while wearing a fur jacket, wasn’t crass and tasteless?

Candidate Bush:
One of the reasons I seek the presidency is to help usher in an era of personal responsibility, an era in which every person understands that they are responsible for the decisions they make in life”

Candidate Bush in the debates:
"We need to say that each of us need to be responsible for what we do. And people in the highest office of the land must be responsible for decisions they make in life.”

Bush’s inaugural:
"Encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats, it is a call to conscience.”

Today’s Washington Post:
Bush will announce this week that he is creating, by executive order, a bipartisan independent panel of at least nine members that will make a report in 2005, the White House confirmed yesterday. But those close to the president say he is doing so while continuing to avoid any explicit public acknowledgment that the intelligence was wrong. Why the reluctance to state what appears increasingly obvious as Kay spent the past 10 days dashing prospects that significant weapons stockpiles would be found in Iraq? Although the tactic may appear to be obtuse, there is a real strategy behind the Bush response -- and one that has been used before, to great effect.
Bush aides have learned through hard experience that admitting error only projects weakness and invites more abuse. Conversely, by postponing an acknowledgment -- possibly beyond Election Day -- the White House is generating a fog of uncertainty around Kay's stark findings, and potentially softening a harsh public judgment.
