(From atrios) WASHINGTON -- A congressional advocate of curbs on immigration was criticized Thursday for using an "anti-Hispanic" prop at a news conference to denounce the widening acceptance of Mexican identification cards.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and several of his colleagues stood beside a large poster to dramatize their concern that more than 1 million IDs issued by Mexican consulates -- and accepted in the United States by many local authorities and banks -- are a form of amnesty for illegal immigrants.
The poster depicted a mock consular ID card with a picture of Mexican President Vicente Fox. It was captioned "Office for the Issuance of Illegal Alien ID." It listed Fox's occupation as "El Presidente," and the citizenship of his parents as "Unknown."

Matt Labash: Because they feed the rage. We bring the pain to the liberal media. I say that mockingly, but it’s true somewhat. We come with a strong point of view and people like point of view journalism. While all these hand-wringing Freedom Forum types talk about objectivity, the conservative media likes to rap the liberal media on the knuckles for not being objective. We’ve created this cottage industry in which it pays to be un-objective. It pays to be subjective as much as possible. It’s a great way to have your cake and eat it too. Criticize other people for not being objective. Be as subjective as you want. It’s a great little racket. I’m glad we found it actually.”

Who can come up with the best punchline?
A 30-year-old man forced his eyes out of their sockets to protest his arrest at Athens International Airport, authorities said Tuesday.
Remi Tsolakis was taken to a hospital and received surgery to try and restore his eyesight, doctors said.
Tsolakis was arrested late Monday after flying to Athens from the island of Rhodes. Airport authorities discovered he had an outstanding three-month jail sentence for a minor offense.
He told police he did not have enough money to pay a fine in lieu of the sentence and would have to go to jail.

Bush fighting terrorism?
More than 20 months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a government
report out Tuesday warned that foreign terrorists still can take
advantage of loopholes in U.S. gun laws and lax government
enforcement to buy all of the assault weapons and explosives they
need to strike again on U.S. soil.
The revelation by the Congressional Research Service came as the Bush
administration raised the national terror alert to its second-highest
level because of reports of possible attacks by al-Qaeda.
