During a radio show this month, Dr. Dean responded to a question about why the Bush administration is withholding documents from a commission investigating the terrorist attacks this way: "There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I've heard so far – which is nothing more than a theory ... it can't be proved – is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis."

Asked about the comments, Mr. Bush, pausing several times, said: "Look, there's time for politics. And, you know ... there's a time for politics. And ... it's an absurd insinuation."

You know what ISN"T an insinuation mr President. Statements like this:
"The Senate is more interested in special interests in Washington and not interested in the security of the American people.".

Thats a direct accusation against mebers of the Senate, including a congressional medal of honor winner, that they don't care about the security of our citizens, you drunk, draft dodging arrogant prick.

The Iraqi people, the president asserted, "need to be very much involved" with Saddam's fate, since they were the ones who were brutalized during Saddam's rule. "He murdered them, he gassed them, he tortured them," Bush pointed out.

Washington Post 1984:
“The United States n a shift in policy, has informed friendly Persian Gulf nations that the defeat of Iraq in the 3-year-old war with Iran would be ‘contrary to U.S. interests’ and has made several moves to prevent that result.

New York Times, 1984:
“American diplomats pronounce themselves satisfied with relations between Iraq and the United States and suggest that normal diplomatic ties have been restored in all but name.

1984 UN report:
“Chemical weapons in the form of aerial bombs have been used in the areas inspected in Iran by the specialists, the U.N. report said. “The types of chemical agents used were bis-(2-chlorethyl)-sulfide, also known as mustard gas, and ethyl N, N-imethylphosphoroamidocyanidate, a nerve agent known as Tabun.

Arming Iraq: How the U.S. and Britain Secretly Built Saddam’s War Machine (Northeastern University Press, 1997)
“ …the Secretaries of Commerce and State (George Baldridge and George Shultz) lobbied the NSC (National Security Council) advisor into agreeing to the sale to Iraq of 10 Bell helicopters, officially for crop spraying. It is believed that US-supplied choppers were used in the 1988 chemical attack on the Kurdish village Halabja, which killed 5000 people.

Bob WOodward in a 1986 Washington Post article:
the CIA began to secretly supply Iraq with intelligence in 1984 that was used to “calibrate mustard gas attacks on Iranian troops

Perhaps a public trial of Saddams atrocities would be a very good thing indeed.

Strom Thurmond in 1948;
"I wanna tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that there's not enough troops in the army to force the southern people to break down segregation and admit the n****r race into our theatres into our swimming pools into our homes and into our churches."

Heres a sample ballot from Stroms 1948 campaign. Notice the part about how passing anti-lynching laws would make "our way in the south" gone forever.

Here is a snippet from the 1948 Dixiecrat platform:
The negro is a native of tropical climate where fruits and nuts are plentiful and where clothing is not required for protection against the weather ... The essentials of society in the jungle are few and do not include the production, transportation and marketing of goods. [Thus] his racial constitution has been fashioned to exclude any idea of voluntary cooperation on his part.

Now imagine you are a twenty year old black girl in Mississippi. And your dad is the one spewing this garbage. Why keep quiet?

The daughter of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, a former segregationist, said today that she kept her mixed-race ancestry secret for decades out of respect for her father. "I never wanted to do anything to harm him or cause detriment to his life or to the lives of those around him,"

Out of respect? didn't want to cause detriment to his life?

Guess the apple really doesnt fall too far from the tree.

Strom Thurmond had an illegitamite black child in 1925.

A scandal like this is sure to set back the segreagationist movement years.

From Time:
When offered a glass of water by his interrogators, Saddam replied, “If I drink water I will have to go to the bathroom and how can I use the bathroom when my people are in bondage?”

I'm trying to find the snarky joke to use here, but it's escaping me....

My Governors mother responsding to allegations that William Tomasso, under investigation for bid rigging on state contracts, personally oversaw construction work on the governors vacation cottage while vying for a 50 million dollar state contract.

John Rowland, Straight And Strong
December 9, 2003

What's in a name? If it is Rowland, it means many things: generations of devotion to God, country and community.
It is truly too bad that a once- reputable newspaper, The Hartford Courant, has to sink so low as to try to debase my son and the Rowland name.
Truly, our rights are being eroded, and the right to privacy seems to be a target, too.
As the mother of Gov. John G. Rowland, and as a private citizen, I sadly protest these accusations.
John is straight and strong, as his father and I reared him to be.
His legacy will survive, perhaps longer than The Courant.

Cerie Rowland
Southbury

Governor Rowlands statement to the press today when it was found out that the allegations, which he vehemently denied, were true:

In the limited, spontaneous remarks I made about the cottage and repairs, I provided information that was incorrect and incomplete. I regret doing this and I am sorry I did it. I apologize to the Capitol press corps, which deserves forthright information. But more importantly, I apologize to the citizens of Connecticut, whose trust and respect I prize above all else. I intend to keep that trust through my continued hard work over the next three years

Did I also mention Rowland was knee deep in the 220 million illegal Enron loan to Connecticut that I am now fortunate enough to have to pay off with my taxes?

Recall Rowland. End the corruption.
